Lunch in Verze

Saturday, May 12th: No matter where we live some things don't change...took out the trash and compost and then did a load of wash. It's open market day in Cluny and I thought I would get myself ready and then surprise Elisabeth by being the driver today. Suddenly there was a knock at the door...Elisabeth had driven up the hill so I was the one who got surprised.

As we entered the market area, Elisabeth noticed that in one building there was an exhibit of lace. I knew that Marie-Annick was to be at this exhibit so I gladly paid our entrance fee of 2 euros. At the very first table inside was Marie-Annick and Lauryne! What a welcome!

There were several ladies creating lace and I asked if I could take a photo...just the idea of remembering which strand to use next boggled my mind.

I promised to return tomorrow and we continued on into the market. Alena was there also. After purchasing everything from radishes to melons to chicken, we just had enough time to get to the hardware store, but Elisabeth had heard that there was to be a flash dance in about 15 minutes and I chose that over another flannel shirt.

We decided to put our groceries in the car and then return. On our way back we once again saw Alena. Her twins were also with her.

Antoine was holding the lead for the donkey that helps people carry their purchases to their cars. The donkey didn't want to move. A few minutes later he began to pee. What a flood! And watching Lucien and Antoine giggle was also funny.
Being short in a crowded place didn't help my photography, but here's about as much of the flash dance that I got to see.

We stopped for bread and then headed for Verze.

On our way these little guys decided to walk across the road and head around another building.

New houses are being built on this side of the road. The farmer has sold off some of his land for development.

He is still raising some animals and these little ones were on the other side of the road...

We then had a delightful lunch with Veronique, Stephane, and their 3 children. When I played "Frere Jacques," Stephane played one of his drums and everyone else sang it as a round. I have no idea how well they did because I was concentrating too hard on the next note I needed to be playing!

On the way home we spotted wild poppies along the road. Poppies are coquelicot...a 3 syllable word and I can actually pronounce it!

I've also learned that buttercups are buttons of gold or Bouton d'orr, and a Marguerite is not a drink...it's a daisy.

Yesterday's blue flowers really were Columbine...called Ancolie. I just had never seen Columbine before in that rich dark blue.

That's it for today...I'm off to bed...
